The Library is offering Friday meetup events for homeschool children to get together and participate in STEAM related enrichment activities. We’ll give a brief presentation on subjects like 3D printing, coding, robotics, electronics, book discussions, crafts, and more.

This Friday’s event will be:

Take-It-Apart Workshop
Today’s youth can learn a lot by tinkering with old electronics, especially materials which would otherwise become e-waste. In this workshop, we’ll be upcycling old electronics by taking them apart and examining the parts they’re made of. In addition to practicing fine motor skills, students will learn about various electronic components, as well as gain exposure to early electronic devices (VCR’s, Walkmen, Computer towers) that they may not be familiar with. Each student will have access to screwdrivers while tinkering, and will be required to wear safety glasses, which will be provided. Attendees may leave with any parts they wish to take home, and the rest will be recycled.

****Attendees are free to donate any old electronics to take apart during the class. These items will not be returned in working condition. Recommended items include: VCR’s, Computer Hard Drives, Stereos and Radios, Clocks, Tape Decks or Recorders, CB radios, DVD players, CD players, Answering Machines, Computer Keyboards, Video Game Consoles.

Please avoid bringing in the following items, as they may contain dangerous materials such as glass or other chemicals: Power cords, Batteries, Televisions, Microwaves, Monitors, Printers, Toasters, Cell Phones, etc.

Ages 8-15
