The Library is partnering with the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati to offer Design Lab: a weekly series of classes for 3rd through 6th graders on architecture and design. In the program, we’ll use recycled materials to construct scale models of buildings that the students design.
This year’s building theme is food spaces. Students will be designing various buildings and structures where food is grown, stored, and served. Each Thursday, our group will meet up for a short lesson on design principles, and then participate in a building activity afterward. In some sessions, we’ll have a project manager from a local design company come speak about the real world of architecture. In later meet-ups, we’ll focus exclusively on building our scale models using recycled materials. At the end of the program, the participants will be judged based on their design, and the winning design will be featured at the Cincinnati Public Library.
The program will meet every week on Thursday evenings, 5-6:30, from January 25th to April 19th, for a total of 14 sessions. Students can only miss up to 4 meet ups, so be sure your child can attend the program at those times.
